London Unified Prayer Timetable

About

Mosques and Islamic centres in London each used to have its own prayer timetable, often prepared decades earlier based on almanacs or manual calculations.

In an increasingly connected world, with local Muslim radio and TV stations, and widespread use of the internet and smartphones, the differences between timetables was difficult to justify.

In particular, in Ramadan London’s Muslims faced small variations in the time for breaking fast, and much larger variations for the start at Fajr time.

Several London Mosques and Islamic Centre worked together to devise a common prayer timetable. The London Unified Prayer Timetable, based on Islamic principles and carefully calculated astronomical data, was agreed in 2011. It has since been used widely across London.

This website hosts the London Unified Prayer Timetable, providing times for many years ahead, including downloadable files that can be used in the preparation of individual timetables, calendars, prayer displays, apps and websites.

This timetable is just for the start times; each mosque has its own Jamā‘ah (congregational) times, according to local needs.

A detailed explanation of the calculations used can be found in the Technical section.
